At the EDGE Hotel School history comes to life as Wivenhoe House, a once impressive 18th Century Grade II listed building, owned by the University of Essex is brought back to its former glory.
This transformation began with the University looking into restoring and refurbishing the house to create a hotel run on a semi-independent basis. Following a survey, it was discovered that a large investment would be needed to bring this dream to life.
Solutions were then sought on how the investment could be generated to restore the building and develop its future. The University found the perfect partner in the Edge Foundation who wanted to demonstrate a new way of delivering higher level practical and vocational education and the exciting idea to transform Wivenhoe House into the EDGE Hotel School was born. A Hotel School much needed by the industry and set to be the first of its kind in the UK.
Then, on 27 July 2011, it was announced that the hospitality education would be provided by the University’s academic partner Kaplan Open Learning.
